Liam happy with Knockhill performance
As Liam Delves was back in action just five weeks after his crash at Oulton Park where he sustained some serious ankle injuries. He travelled up to Scotland for a round of the Motostar British Championship at Knockhill where he was unfortunate to be taken out by another rider in the Sprint race but came back strong in the Feature race to claim a creditable eighth place.
Free practice and qualifying went well for the 16-year-old rider on his Stauff Connect Academy/DR Moto machine, beginning the first race from a third-row grid position. He was riding well considering his ankles are still not completely healed and moved up into seventh position on the penultimate lap. but his race came to an abrupt end when the rider just behind caught his back wheel and fetching off the bike. Although uninjured the bike was damaged in the crash and the team had a lot of work to do in the interim period before the longer feature race.
Liam said: “I was having a really good race and found some good pace setting my personal best lap time and was in a great fight for sixth place. But on the last lap at the hairpin, I was hit from behind and taken out. I am fine but my Moto3 bike didn’t get away so lucky. But my team are working hard to get it back together for race two.”
Once again starting from the third-row Delves began well setting another personal best lap time in an effort to stay in touch with the leaders. But as the pain from his ankle injuries kicked in he lost touch and completed the race in eighth position.
He said: “Race two started off as a great race with me again moving forward and setting another personal best lap time in a great battle for fifth place. But unfortunately, towards the later part of the race I was suffering with my ankles. So my lap times dropped off the pace and I ended the race in eighth. But considering my injury I am happy with my performance and would like to thank my team for the hard work this weekend and also thank all my Scottish supporters who made Knockhill Racing Circuit feel like my home track. I would like to thank all my team at GR-Motorsport for their hard work and say a thank you to Scott Leathers, Oxford Products and Knox Amour for protecting me; ”
“I would also like to thank all my followers and supporters for the continued support. Club34 is growing but I still have places available and if anyone would like more details on how to be involved with the huge benefits you can email me on firstname.lastname@example.org”
The next round of the British HEL Performance Motostar 2017championship is at Snetterton over the weekend of 30 June – 2 July 2017 when Liam should be back to full fitness and raring to go.
