Liam takes big steps forward in tough Thruxton weekend
Liam Delves rode through the pain barrier to complete his two races in the seventh round of the HEL Performance British Motostar championship in 13th and ninth position at Thruxton to move to 10th in the rider standings on 76 points.
Still suffering some pain from a car accident last week Liam Delves completed his qualifying in 15th place and began the short, 10 lap Sprint race on Saturday from a fifth row grid position.
He got away to a good start, moving straight up to 12th on the opening lap. He soon became involved in a 10 rider battle for position with places being frequently exchanged within the group.
At the end of the race Liam crossed the finish line in 14th place overall but a rider in a separate class was ahead and this elevated Liam up a place to finish in 13th position to claim three championship points.
Starting the 14 lap Feature race from the fifth row Liam quickly moved up into 12th position and was embroiled in a five rider battle for 11th place throughout the 11 lap affair. He staved off the persistent challenge from the other four riders and on the final lap two of the leading riders ahead crashed which gifted Liam a ninth place end to the race.
“It was a tough weekend for me at Thruxton Race Circuit I finished my second race in ninth place but we made some big steps that we will take forward to the next round. My team worked so hard all weekend making changes to the Stauff Connect Academy DR Moto Moto3 bike to get me as comfortable as possible and we are looking forward to Cadwell Park in two weeks’ time. Unfortunately the day was marred by the news of a tragic accident in the Superstock 1000 race in which Mark Fincham sadly lost his life. My thoughts are with the True Heroes team and Mark’s family and friends.”
The next round of the HEL Performance Motostar is at the Lincolnshire circuit of Cadwell Park on August 20 where Liam will be looking forward to jumping the infamous mountain and hoping for a couple of strong points finishes to boost his points tally.
