Liam happy with top ten results in sketchy conditions at Oulton Park
Liam Delves made his second visit of the season to Oulton Park at the weekend resulting in an eighth and ninth place finish his two races at round 10 of the HEL Performance Motostar championship.
Free practice and qualifying took place in differing weather conditions but Saturday’s Sprint race took place in the dry with Delves starting the 12 lapper from a fourth-row grid position.
As the lights went out Delves maintained his 11th position through the first seven laps but inherited 10th place when another rider was forced out of the race with a technical problem. Liam was running very close to Asher Durham and took the advantage on lap nine to move up into eighth position. He was right on the back wheel of Storm Stacey but was unable to make a pass and crossed the finish line in eighth position, a mere 0.048s behind Stacey.
Starting the feature race on Sunday from the head of the fifth row Liam was boxed in at the first turn but by the end of the lap had made up places to 12th. The track was already wet and now made even more treacherous by a heavy shower of rain coming down. But Liam managed to make further progress to take up ninth place on lap five which he held to the chequered flag.
He said: “I am happy with two top 10 results on the Stauff Connect Academy DR Moto Moto3 bike in sketchy conditions. I was unlucky to get caught up in another rider’s crash on the opening lap of race two and was left with nowhere to go. This caused me to lose touch with the leading group but I was able to eventually finish in ninth place. Thank you to my team for their hard work and support over the weekend plus of course my sponsors as without their help I would not be racing. I am now looking forward to the next round where I hope to be able to improve my results.”
Liam is now placed 11th in the rider standings on 106 points.
The penultimate round of the series is at Assen in the Netherlands, aka the Cathedral of Speed on October 1 when Liam will be hoping for some good weather for the two races and some top results.
