Donington Park – Pirelli National Superstock 600 race report
Liam Delves was at Donington Park last weekend where he recorded a strong 10th position in round three of the Pirelli National Supersport 600 championship.
The young rider was on the pace throughout the weekend and qualified the Team VMR Kawasaki ZX-6R in third place for a front row start to his race on Sunday morning.
He said: “The changes that the team made to the bike were on point but still a couple of little tweaks to be made so I can be where I want to be. I still feel I have more to come and can’t wait to get back out tomorrow in the race.”
But as the lights went out Liam got a bad start and was swallowed up into the pack. He completed the first lap in seventh position but then one lap later Caolan Irwin passed him. He circulated in eighth place for the majority of the race but on lap 14 of 20 he made a pass stick on Adam Hartgrove to take up seventh place.
But in the latter stages he fell foul to the dreaded arm pump and with three laps remaining dropped back to 11th. On the penultimate lap he retook Hartgrove and held station to cross the finish line in 10th position to pick up six championship points, his first of the current campaign.
Liam commented: “I’ve had a fantastic weekend with a really strong pace. Qualifying on the front row was a great feeling though unfortunately during my race I suffered massively with arm pump and was unable to hold onto the bike resulting in my dropping back to 10th but it was still a fantastic result though.
“I would like to say a big thank you to all my team for their hard work this weekend and once again all my loyal sponsors and supporters that came to show their support this weekend. I will be working hard over the next few weeks to try and resolve my arm pump issues.”
The series takes a three-week break now to allow for the Isle of Man TT festival but the riders will regroup at Brands Hatch for round four of the series that takes place on June 14/16.
