Snetterton – Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship report
Liam Delves rode to a solid ninth place in round six of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 championship at Snetterton in Norfolk and moves to 13th in the overall rider standings on 26 points.
Free practice didn’t go as well as he had hoped but the Solihull rider persevered and secured 12th in the qualifying session and started the race from a fourth row grid position.
He said: “So once again I got caught out by the rain during my qualifying session at but I managed to lose over 2.5s from my free practice time. It’s still not where I would like to be but I’m moving forward in the right direction with the Team VMR Kawasaki.”
As the race got underway Delves was boxed in at the first corner, dropping down to 15th on the first lap but he made a spirited effort on lap two and made it back up to 12th place.
Liam made steady progress passing Louis Valleley at the midway stage of the 10 lap affair to take up 10th place and then caught and passed TJ Toms with two laps of the race remaining. He was homing in on Ed Best on the final lap but on the dash to the flag he was just pipped to the line by the smallest of margins, 0.096s so had to be content with ninth place.
Liam commented: “I managed to get away to a good start on the Team VMR Kawasaki ZX6R but got pushed wide in turn one getting swallowed up in the pack. I knew I had the pace to run with the guys in the top 10 so I got my head down and focused on the group and managed to finish in ninth position. I am happy with my result at my least favourite track and managed to set my personal best lap of the weekend.
“I would like to give my best wishes to Aaron Clifford who had a bad crash this morning and is in hospital. My thoughts are with him and his family.”
The next round is at Thruxton on August 2/4.
