Liam takes first BSB win at Thruxton
Liam Delves recorded his first win in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 championship at Thruxton in round seven of the series on Sunday and moves up to 11th in the overall rider standings on 51 points with four rounds remaining.
Liam had been on the case throughout free practice and qualifying and earned himself a start from a second-row grid position. But when the lights went out he got a bad start and found himself down in the midfielders on the first lap.
But as the race wore on he got his head down and began to pick off the opposition. His progress was halted for a couple of laps when the course car came out to allow the marshals time to retrieve a crashed bike laid in the middle of the track. Once the car left the track and the race was back on Liam moved up to seventh place when he passed Louis Valleley and one lap later he passed Cameron Fraser for sixth position.
On lap 11 he was up to fifth when he overtook Ben Luxton and at the end of lap 12 he snatched fourth after passing Eunan McGlinchey. Involved in a five rider battle for the lead Liam saw a chance and took the lead on lap 13 passing four riders to snatch the lead and although the action was close he held his line through the final two laps to take his first win of the season in the Superstock 600 class.
Liam said: “I had a pretty bad start and was running 10th after the first lap; but in the end I managed to pull it back. I knew I had the pace to run at the front and I want to say a massive thank you to everyone that made it happen. I have always liked Thruxton, the first year in BSB I had two podiums and it’s always been one of my favourite tracks. Thanks so much to my team and all my sponsors I am so happy to have finally got the win I was looking for.”
The next round is at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire on August 16/18 where Liam will be seeking another win in the highly competitive class and add to his points tally.
