Liam takes eighth place at Cadwell Park
Liam Delves from Solihull rode to a strong eighth place at Cadwell Park in round eight of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 championship on Sunday which was enough to see him move into the top 10 of the rider standings on 59 points. Following his first win of the campaign at Thruxton Liam was delighted to be voted R&G Rookie of the meeting at Thruxton which has boosted his confidence ahead of the Cadwell Park race on Sunday.
The weather hampered free practice with heavy rain curtailing racing on Friday. With less track time to find a good set up Liam went into qualifying to fight for a good grid position and rode through to eighth place to start the race from the third row.
He said: “After only doing four laps yesterday in free practice two due to the weather I managed to end my qualifying session in eighth place; I’m happy with my progress and positive we can move forward in the race tomorrow.”
But after just three laps the race was red flagged and at the restart they only completed one lap before the rain halted proceedings once again.
Third time lucky the race was restarted but reduced in length to just seven laps. The action was frantic as riders jostled for position with Delves homing in on Shane Richardson on the final lap. But Richardson just beat him to the line by the smallest of margins – 0.2s – to leave Liam to secure eighth place and eight championship points which elevate him up to 10th place overall.
Liam said: “After a very eventful race with three starts due to red flags and rain we finally got away and I managed to finish the race in eighth place. I’m happy with that and take the eight points that has now moved me into 10th place overall.”
The next round is at Oulton Park over the weekend of September 6/8.
