Liam takes top ten finish from difficult Silverstone weekend
In an incident packed race, Liam Delves rode to a 10th place finish at Silverstone on Sunday in round 9 of the Pirelli National Junior Superstock championship to pick up six championship points which see him retain his sixth place in the rider standings on 90 points.
The 21-year-old rider rode well throughout free practice and qualifying to finish seventh in the session and a place at the head of the third row.
He said: “I was seventh in my qualifying session on the Cheshire Mouldings and Woodturnings Ltd Kawasaki powered by JR Performance and was a mere 0.3s away from pole. The pace out there is mega with the top 10 riders all under lap record pace.”
As the race got underway on Sunday morning Delves got off the line well but a five rider crash on the first lap caused him to run wide and fall down the order. The safety car was deployed for the first four laps while the circuit was cleared of the damaged machinery and when the car left the circuit and the race back on Liam was down in 14th position.
Although he got his head down and picked up places he was unable to catch the leading group and he ended the race in 10th place.
Liam said: “It’s been a difficult weekend; I have been struggling with set up and despite my team’s best efforts to resolve it the issue continued but I still managed to set a personal best lap time and ran under lap record pace all weekend but unfortunately in the Race 10th position was the best I could do. I will put it behind me and move on to Oulton Park in two weeks’ time for a doubleheader weekend. Thank you to all my team for all their hard work everyone who came along to support me and all my Sponsors for their continued support.”
