Race Report Round 10 & 11 – Oulton Park
DESPITE SOME technical issues with the Cheshire Mouldings and Woodturnings Ltd Kawasaki ZX6RR powered by JR Performance, Liam Delves recorded two top 10 results at Oulton Park at the weekend in rounds 10 and 11 of the Pirelli National Junior Superstock championship.
It was a difficult qualifying session in damp conditions and after encountering some technical issues with the Kawasaki the 21-year-old rider completed the session in 19th position to start the first of two races from the head of the seventh row.
Liam got a good start, making up three places on the opening lap and as the race unfolded he moved through to take up 10th place on lap four but although he made inroads to the group ahead he ran out of time and crossed the finish line in 10th place.
Liam said: “I managed to complete the race in 10th place and my lap times were sufficient to move me up the grid by 10 places for Sunday’s race.”
Starting race two from the third row Delves entered into a fierce battle for position with Ed Best and Sam Laffins eventually passing both riders to chase after Franco Bourne who he passed on lap 9 of 11 to slot into seventh place. The next group of riders was too far ahead for Delves to catch and he had to be content with seventh place at the flag.
Liam said: “Well that’s the end of a difficult weekend at Oulton Park; I managed to pull back a few points and retain my sixth place in the rider standings. I will now head home and prepare for Donington Park next weekend and hopefully be able to push forward. Once again thank you to everyone for their support and my team for their hard work all weekend.”
Liam remains in sixth place on 105 points and moves on to Donington Park this weekend for the penultimate round of the championship where he hoping for a good result near the end of the season.
